Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet neighborhood situated on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. Many people unfamiliar with the word frequently think that there is a separate island to the west of Montreal but in fact the West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time was not long in the city. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but due to an explosive increase in her height, she outgrew all of her dancing partners. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. Once I surpassed the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move to acting. For the Brugel family, it was their drama instructor who pushed her in that direction. The teacher suggested she try to get a role for school's annual play. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been performing in over 60 plays, smaller and large. One of the most memorable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian in the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and only seen occasionally was the sole Canadian.
