Rene Russo grew up in Burbank. Her parents are Nino Russo and Shirley Balocca. Shirley is an barmaid. Her father, a mechanical engineer and sculptor left her family around the age of two. She was raised by her mother Rene along with her sister Toni alone. Her father was of Italian descent and her mother was of Italian and German-English-Irish ancestry. Rene's scoliosis was so severe that she had to wear a full torso-brace in Junior High School. Jolly Green Giant was her nickname among her peers because of her height. Her first year at Burroughs High School along with classmate Ron Howard and even though her brace had been removed she was still somewhat of the lonesome.
